Three Reasons to Turn Off Read Receipts On Your Apps Now

Do you have your read receipts turned on in your phone's settings or certain apps? It's time to turn them off now because they aren't helping you or the people you are choosing to communicate with or ignore.

Read receipts are an option in iMessage, your Outlook email, and even some social media applications.

Their primary purpose is to inform the person that messaged you or emailed you that you did, in fact, read their message. Of course, that also means that you know when someone was just choosing not to respond to you. Eek! That's the worst.

Three Reasons To Turn Off Read Receipts:

1. Because you should be able to pretend to not see a message if you so desire! For example: If you get a message from work on the weekend if your read receipts are off, they can't confirm that you saw the message when it was sent. See, this reason alone is why you should turn them off now.

2. If you're doing the whole dating thing, nothing good comes from your read receipts being turned on.

If you are an "over thinker" (like me), read receipts will just drive you insane. According to dating expert, Madeleine Mason, “If you have a tendency to overthink things and get mini-panics overseeing someone having read your message and not replying, then I would suggest turning the function off completely,” she told The Independent

It's the worst when you send someone a message asking them to go out, and they read it and just don't respond for a long time or ever, right?

3. We live in a world where we want an immediate response and if we don't get one we experience anxiety and stress.

Ignorance is bliss.

Isn't it better to just assume someone didn't see your message when they saw it and are ignoring you? Dating Coach James Preece says, "the more you do it then, the worse it will get; they can't understand why you aren't making them a priority by replying.”
