Wendy's Is Bringing Back a Popular Menu Item

Wendy’s is bringing back its cod sandwich just in time for Lent.

The return of the menu item coincides with Ash Wednesday, observed on February 26, which marks the beginning of Lent, a religious six-week-long holiday preparing those who celebrate for the Easter celebration.

Every Friday during the observance, many people abstain from eating meat, opting for fish-based entrees instead, which means it's the perfect time for Wendy's to bring back the fan-favorite item.

According to the menu, the seasonal sandwich features a wild-caught North Pacific cod in “crunchy panko breading, topped with creamy dill tartar sauce, three dill pickle slices and lettuce on a soft toasted bun."

It’s one of the healthier, meatless alternatives on the menu, clocking in at 440 calories and 16 grams of protein.

Prices may vary by location, but it usually retails for roughly $3.99.

While there seem to be mixed reviews about the sandwich, one user suggested adding cheese (an extra cost) to amplify the sandwich.

Other Twitter users shared their love for the sandwich, adding that it should be available year-round.

Unfortunately, the cod sandwich will only be available for a limited time. This year, Lent concludes on Thursday, April 9.

Wendy’s also announced it will introduce breakfast offerings on March 2.

Some of the items that will be offered include a Breakfast Baconator, Honey Butter chicken Biscuit, and Frosty-ccino drink.

Other items include potato wedges and different blends of coffee.

The menu comes after an unsuccessful attempt to sell AM items in 2012.
