Stephanie Poetri could write a new book about how to turn an idea into a career, or more specifically, a lyric into a collaboration with an idol.

Her homemade viral hit “I Love You 3000” was famously inspired by a line from “Avengers: Endgame,” and before she knew it the song was being remixed with vocals by K-pop star Jackson Wang.

I have been a fan of his for so long and so being able to collaborate with one of your faves is probably one of the most amazing things I’ve ever done in my life,” the 19-year-old told RADIO.COM. “And he’s extremely humble and kind and hard-working, which makes it very pleasant to work with someone so big.”

“I Love You 3000” laid the groundwork for Poetri’s first EP, Do You Love Me. It contains the title track and one other song called “Touch.” And the two tracks have something in common, according to Poetri: they’re both anti-romance. Hear the meanings behind the lyrics in our new interview above, along with the two other artists she’d loved to collaborate with.

Poetri is originally from Jakarta and says her upbringing can’t help but influence who she is and how she sees the world. She says she enjoys a certain level of comfort and hominess when she goes back to Indonesia.

“I come in a restaurant and I just strike up a conversation with the person next to me,” she explained. “I feel like my humor is very Indonesian and so when I’m in Indonesia I just miss being extremely humorous. But here I’m like a weirdo sometimes.”

Her 1.3 million Instagram followers have comment. They do, actually. They love Stephanie being Stephanie.
