NBC Renews Workplace Comedy 'Superstore' for Season 6

February 12, 2020

“Superstore” will stick around for another season.

The comedy series scored an early season 6 renewal from NBC.

The show's Twitter account shared the exciting news with a picture of the whole cast.

"It's a beautiful day at Cloud 9," the photo's caption read. "Superstore will be coming back for Season 6,” alongside a picture of the whole cast."

The social account also shared a video of the elated cast and crew cheering and rejoicing upon hearing the good news announced live.

The news mirrors the renewal of another workplace comedy, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” which got the green light for season 8 back in November 2019.

“Superstore’s” renewal isn’t surprising as the series continues to be one of NBC’s “strongest digital performers,” according to Deadline.

The series, along with “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” remains one of the most-watched programs on Hulu.

“We’re thrilled that 'Superstore' continues to speak to many important and topical issues while simultaneously being hilarious,” Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, Co-Presidents of Scripted Programming, NBC Entertainment told the publication.

The single-camera comedy series stars America Ferrera and Ben Feldman and takes place in a fictional big-box store called Cloud 9.

This year, NBC has announced the end of two comedy series on its programming roster.

The critically-acclaimed “The Good Place” concluded its run after four seasons earlier this month, while the revival of “Will and Grace” will take a bow later this year.

In January, the network gave a three-season renewal order to medical drama "New Amsterdam." The order was similar to the renewal they gave “This Is Us” in 2019, which remain on the air through season 6.

NBC also announced its streaming service, Peacock, would be rolling out on July 15. It will include a mix of current NBC shows and scripted originals. There are several comedy pick-ups on the list including two from funny-women Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, respectively.
